How do I report nuisance problems such as dogs who bark all night?

How do I take out a Civil Process?
Go to the Clerk of Courts Office on the 2nd floor of the Hall of Justice located at 201 North Main Street in downtown Winston-Salem.

How do I send packages to an inmate?
Inmates are not allowed to receive packages.

How do I send money to an inmate?

How do I obtain arrest reports for a person?
You may visit the Clerk of Superior Court`s Office located in the Forsyth County Hall of Justice, 200 North Main Street, Winston-Salem, NC. The cost of the certified record check is $25.00. You will need the person`s full name (maiden name and so forth) and the person`s date of birth. You may also mail your request to: Clerk of Superior Court Forsyth County Hall of Justice P.O. Box 20099 Winston-Salem, NC 27120-0099 You must include the above information along with a money order or certified bank check for $10.00. Do not send cash or personal checks. For other questions, please call (336) 761-2250.

Can I get a faxed copy of a report?
Yes, Records can fax someone the public copy of a report. No identification is required unless their name is restricted and we need proof of identification to unrestrict the name.

How do I get a copy of the full incident report?
You must obtain a court order signed by a judge.

If I am a victim mentioned in a report, will the Sheriff`s Office give the suspect a copy of the incident report?
Yes, the suspect can obtain the public copy of the report. However, if domestic in nature the victim’s information is restricted. The suspect can obtain the complete incident report with a court order signed by a judge.

When requesting a copy of a report, where do I get the case number?
The officer who responds to the call should issue the case number to you.

If I do not have a case number, what information do I need to provide in order to obtain the front page of a report?
Location of incident, Date of Incident, Name of those involved and Type of call.

Can I get my fingerprints done if I have identification from another state?
Yes. You must have a valid Government Issued ID or Passport.

Can a minor obtain fingerprints?
Yes, if accompanied by a parent or legal guardian and with proper photo identification.

If I have a large group that is in need of fingerprinting, can arrangements be made ahead of time to accommodate the group?
Yes. The Permits Unit will tell you when to arrive and how many people it can accommodate during each fingerprinting session.

Does the Permits Unit accept checks or credit/debit cards?
No. Only cash is accepted, and if possible the correct amount is appreciated.

For how long is Firearms Safety Certificate valid?
Currently there is no expiration date on the certificate per the SBI.

Do I get to keep my original Firearms Safety Certificate?
No. The original is submitted with your application and is maintained on file.

When is it time for me to renew my carry concealed weapon permit? Do I have to provide another Firearms Safety Certificate?
If you reapply no more than 90 days prior to the expiration date of your permit, the Sheriff will waive a new Firearms Safety Certificate. Failure to reapply on time will result in the processing of a new permit.

Will the Sheriff`s Office notify my when it is time to renew my CCW permit?
The Sheriff’s Office will send you a reminder letter of renewal. It ultimately is the permit holder’s responsibility to comply with renewal regulations.

Can someone else pick up my gun permits?
No. The applicant must appear in person and provide photo identification at the time the permit is issued. If the permit is for a carry concealed weapon, the applicant must sign the permit at the time of issuance.

How many gun permits can I apply for at one time?
There is no limit to the number or frequency of permit applications.

Is a handgun permit renewable?
No. Once they expire you must reapply.

What do I do if I lose my carry concealed weapon permit?
You must immediately report the loss to the Sheriff`s Office and sign an affidavit as to the loss. The information will be sent to the SBI and another permit will be issued to you. Do not carry a weapon concealed without your permit.

Where can I find a listing of other states that accept the North Carolina Carry Concealed Permit when I am traveling?
You may find this list at http://www.ncdoj.gov

Do I have to show my gun to the officer if I am stopped in my vehicle?
NO, but you are required to tell the officer that you are in possession of a weapon and that you have a valid permit.

Can I be criminally charged for lying on my application.
Yes.

Once I purchase a weapon, do I have to register the gun with the Sheriff`s Office?
No, there is no gun registration in North Carolina

What are the days and times for friends and family visitation at the Detention Center?
Hours: 9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. 12:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Days: Housing Units Visitation Days 2C and 2D 4B and 4D Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays 6B and 6D 8B and 8D Housing Units Visitation Days 2A, 2B, 2C and 2D 4A and 4C 6A and 6C Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays 8A and 8C 10A and 10C Note: Inmate Workers may receive visitors on any day except Friday. There is no "public visitation" on Friday. NOTE: All visitors must be registered for visitation 30 minutes prior to visitation ending.

How many visits is an inmate allowed?
Unless placed on visitation restrictions, inmates are allowed two (2) visits a week.

What items are visitors allowed to bring to a visitation?
Visitors are allowed to have only their identification and keys during the visitation process. All other items must be store in the visitor`s vehicle or in one of the facility`s public lockers. Staff members are not allowed to store any personal effects for an visitor other than the visitor`s driver`s license or identification card.
